Leigh received a B.A. in English from Henderson State University, a Master of Liberal Arts in English and Philosophy from Henderson State University, and a Ph.D. in Victorian Literature from the University of Arkansas. She has taught at Henderson State University, College of the Ouachitas, and the University of Arkansas.

While her publications center on philosophy and popular culture, her research and conference presentations deal with a wide range of topics, including detective fiction, masculinity studies, feminism, and even comic books.  Her primary area of specialization is British literature, although her teaching interests are more global. She also teaches the Humanities Capstone course.

Courses she has taught at ASMSA include Sophomore English, Composition I and II, Survey of British Literature, British Women Writers, Gender in Literature, Philosophy in Literature, Sherlock Holmes, Comic Books in America, and Austen and Brontë in Literature and Film.
