ASMSA is an opportunity unlike any other high school in Arkansas, and the best way to learn more about the experience is to attend an Admissions event on our Hot Springs campus or participate in one of our many free Outreach events. Our events are great for middle school through high school students. For more information about various ways to connect with and experience learning at ASMSA, find the appropriate category below.

MASH-ups are hands-on, minds-on workshops for Arkansas 7th-, 8th- and 9th-graders. These Saturday morning events are designed to expose students to two different subjects from Math, Arts, Sciences, and Humanities in short sessions led by ASMSA faculty and staff. A snack is provided between the two sessions, and there’s an opportunity to learn more about living and learning at ASMSA. MASH-ups are free to attend, but event space is limited so registration is required. To view more information on MASH-up program dates and register for an event, please click here.
ASMSA invites rising 8th- and 9th- grade students to apply to spend an exciting week of Summer Camp on our Hot Springs campus to connect with others and learn in a fun and challenging atmosphere. These half-day events include an overview presentation, campus tour, and separate Q&A sessions for parents/guardians and students. Preview Days take place on the ASMSA campus. Preview Day dates for the 2023-24 academic year include Saturday, Sept. 16; Saturday, Oct. 14; Saturday, Nov. 11; Saturday, Jan. 20; and Monday, Feb. 19. Preregistration is required. Shadow Stays are designed for students who are applying to attend ASMSA beginning in Fall 2024. These experiences allow you to explore ASMSA's unique living and learning environment. Over the course of the event you will spend time with current students, engage with ASMSA instructors and residential life staff, eat lunch provided by the Dolphin Bay Café, tour campus, and more. To ensure as many prospective students as possible are able to participate in our programming, we limit each applicant to attending only one Shadow Stay per year. Space is limited and pre-registration is required; click here for specific dates, more information, and to register.

Educators
ASMSA is offering online workshops for Arkansas educators on how to lead a safe and effective eclipse viewing session of the 2024 solar eclipse for their students.
Portions of Arkansas will be in the viewing path for the April 8, 2024, total eclipse. To help teachers prepare for the event, ASMSA physics and astronomy instructors will lead the workshop.
Who can attend?
Any public, private or charter school educator in Arkansas. Home school educators are also invited. All grade levels are welcome, and each workshop is limited to 20 educators. The sessions are not open to students.
When are the workshops?
Sessions are set for Dec. 2, 2023; Jan. 20, 2024, and March 9, 2024.
What will we discuss?
- When to schedule your viewing session;
- How to choose a viewing site;
- Constructing safe viewing devices for the partial phase of the eclipse;
- Sources for safe solar viewing glasses for the partial phase of the eclipse; and
- Citizen science projects your students can participate in during the eclipse.
Every educator who attends a session will be given access to training materials to use in their classes and will be mailed a starter pack of 20 eclipse glasses.
