Students earn recognition at FBLA District IV competition

Several Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts students earned recognition at the 2022 FBLA District IV Spring Conference and advancing to the upcoming state competition.

The district conference was held on Feb. 2 at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope/Texarkana in Hope. Students who placed in the top six of their event qualified to compete at the state FBLA conference that will be held April 4-5 in Little Rock.

Students earned recognition the following categories:

  • Accounting I — Jaden Williams, a junior from Fort Smith, sixth place;
  • Business Calculation — Vicky Zhu, a junior from El Dorado, third place;
  • Computer Problem Solving — Buckley Harrison, a junior from West Memphis, second place;
  • Cyber Security — Bear Moore, a senior from Hampton, first place;
  • Economics — Beth Catron, a junior from Peel, first place;
  • Health Care Administration — Alyssa Thomas, a junior from El Dorado, second place;
  • Introduction to Business Concepts — Carter Horton, a sophomore from Conway, first place;
  • Introduction to Business Presentation — Shane Wood, a sophomore from Clarksville, third place;
  • Job Interview — Abigail Finney, a junior from Pocahontas, third place;
  • Journalism — Jaysee Magby, a senior from Foreman, seventh place;
  • Marketing — Team of Madison Arenaz, a junior from Piggott, and Blake Smith, a senior from London, first place;
  • Organizational Leadership — MK Mashburn, a senior from Crossett, first place;
  • Personal Finance — Talana Small, a junior from White Hall, first place;
  • Political Science — Arindam Deb, a senior from Beebe, second place;
  • Social Media Strategies — Izzy Funes, a junior from Conway, second place; and
  • Website Design — Kiley Barton, a junior from Sims, fifth place.

Seventeen of the 19 ASMSA students who competed in the district competition earned recognition. Data Analysis is a state-level only event. Trey Clark, a senior from Harrison, will compete in that event at the state conference.

Blake Smith served as the District IV FBLA President for 2021-22. Abigail Finney was elected to serve as the District IV FBLA vice president for 2022-23.
