Student musicians earn All-Region, All-State band honors

Several Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts students recently qualified for the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association 2021 All-Region and All-State bands.

ASBOA Region II auditions were held Jan. 23. ASMSA students who qualified for Region II All-Region Concert Band included:

  • Yibing Hu, a senior from Jonesboro, flute, first band, first chair;
  • Aishani Singh, a senior from Hot Springs, flute, first band, second chair;
  • Mai Nobles, a junior from Hot Springs, clarinet, first band, first chair;
  • Nathan Robinson, a junior from Hot Springs Village, alto saxophone, first band, fourth chair;
  • Courtland Callis, a sophomore from Alexander, horn in F, first band, fourth chair;
  • Graham Eisele, a junior from Benton, tuba, first band, third chair;
  • Kacie Koen, a sophomore from Benton, tenor saxophone, second band, first chair;
  • Steven Lynch, a senior from Scranton, trumpet, second band, fifth chair; and
  • Jacob Holmes, a senior from Rector, trombone, second band, third chair.

In fall 2020, Koen qualified for the ASBOA Region II Jazz Band at second chair for tenor saxophone, and Soumya Chauhan, a junior from Bentonville, qualified for the ASBOA South Region All-Region Orchestra playing violin.

The ASBOA All-State Band auditions were held Feb. 6. Three ASMSA student musicians qualified for the band. They were:

  • Yibing Hu, a senior from Jonesboro, fifth chair flute, All-State Wind Symphony;
  • Mai Nobles, a junior from Hot Springs, 24th chair clarinet, All-State Symphonic Band; and
  • Aishani Singh, a senior from Hot Springs, first chair Flute, All-State Concert Band.

Soumya Chauhan, a junior from Bentonville, was named an All-State Orchestra violin alternate selection.
