Science Fair and Senior Research Symposium, Feb. 22-24

ASMSA will host its annual Science Fair and Senior Research Symposium, Wednesday, Feb. 22 – Friday, Feb. 24. This is a regional Intel Science and Engineering Fair with the top two winners advancing to the national competition.

Science Fair categories include animal science, behavioral and social sciences, cellular and molecular biology, chemistry and biochemistry, computer science, earth science, energy and transportation, engineering, environmental sciences, mathematics, medicine and health, microbiology, physics and astronomy and plant sciences.

The Senior Research Symposium (SRS) features humanities projects in the following categories: arts and literature, social sciences, history, politics and government.

All ASMSA seniors must complete a Science Fair or SRS project as part of their graduation requirements. In addition to being judged on their projects, the students participate in a Junior Academy competition, which is a 10-minute oral presentation about their projects.

The public viewing of Science Fair and SRS projects will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23. Students will be available for questions about their projects from 1 to 3 p.m.

The awards ceremony will be from 10 to 11:30 am. Friday, Feb. 24. Prior to the awards ceremony, students’ families may visit during a family-only viewing from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday.

At the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles, Arnab was awarded $1,500 in the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering category for his project "Novel Oral Drug Inhaler Design to Optimize Drug Deposition in the Lungs." He also received the $1,000 first place award from the American Intellectual Property and Law Association and second place from the Patent and Trademark Office Society.
