ASMSA Gala set for April 1, it’s no joke!

It’s no joke – Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts invites you to enjoy an evening of music, dining and shopping on Friday, April 1 at the Austin Hotel in downtown Hot Springs.

“Gestalt: The whole is greater than the sum of the parts” is the theme for the 2nd Annual ASMSA Gala.

“Juggling mathematics, sciences and the arts, our well-rounded, high-achieving students will ‘wow’ our guests with their amazing talents,” said ASMSA Events Coordinator Vicki Hinz.

During the evening, ASMSA band and choir members will perform selections from “The Phantom of the Opera.” The school’s Step Team also will perform and the student’s academic and art projects will be on display.

Following the Step Team’s performance, the students will hand out table favors – pillow boxes designed by ASMSA students and filled with M&M’s. Inside three of the boxes will be a gemstone. Lara Pranter of Lara’s Jewelry and Design has donated a ½ carat diamond, a green tourmaline and a blue sapphire representing the school colors. The winners will receive an appraisal and a gift certificate to be used toward the cost of mounting the stones. Each person attending will receive a favor and a chance to win one of the gemstones.

“This is our major fundraiser for the school and we are asking our guests to return a ‘favor for a favor’ by making an additional donation to the ASMSA Foundation,” Hinz said.

The Gala’s silent auction will feature items donated by local businesses as well as vacation packages and tickets to sporting events. Money raised at the event will benefit the construction of the new Student Life Complex. The ASMSA Foundation also funds academic programs and helps meet the personal needs of students.

State Rep. John Vines and his wife Libby are the Gala’s honorary dinner chairs, and John Hearnsberger will be the emcee. In addition to the students’ performances, Deleen Davidson and Ken Goodman will sing a duet from “The Phantom of the Opera,” accompanied by Louis Menendec on piano.

The dinner menu includes: salad, chicken stuffed with spinach and cheese, grilled asparagus, parsley new potatoes and lemon berry mascarpone cake.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person. For more information, contact Hinz at 622-5110 or hinzv@asmsa.org
