The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts (ASMSA), a campus of the University of Arkansas System, invites applications from highly qualified candidates for a ten-month Computer Science Instructor position beginning no later than August 1, 2024.
ASMSA is tasked with providing extraordinary opportunities for a diverse group of students. Established by the General Assembly in 1991 as a public, residential high school to serve talented and motivated Arkansas students from throughout the state as a school of choice, ASMSA—located in historic downtown Hot Springs and adjacent to Hot Springs National Park—is one of only 17 public residential high schools in the United States specializing in the education of students with an interest in advanced careers in math and science as well as a passion for and creativity within studio, performing, language, and digital arts. ASMSA offers more than 70 courses for college credit, and all students earn an average of 50 hours of college credit while finishing high school. A Master’s degree in computer science or a comparable field with at least 18 graduate hours of computer science coursework is required. The successful candidate must have the ability to teach concurrent credit courses in programming and computer science at all levels. All candidates should demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching. Experience mentoring student research is a bonus. Preferred candidates will have a minimum of three years’ teaching experience.
The successful candidate will coach our robotics and programming competition teams. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in working with gifted students, teaching through technology, developing interdisciplinary curricula, team planning skills, and problem-solving skills congruent to a growing, dynamic academic program within a multidisciplinary institution.

This position will assist in the design of age-appropriate curricular resources aligned with Arkansas' Computer Science standards, plan and deliver professional development opportunities for secondary teachers, support ASMSA's spectrum of Computer Science initiatives, and maintain a courseload of 2-3 classes per semester to ASMSA residential students.

The Residential Mentor position is responsible for maintaining policies, transporting students, and ensuring student safety. The Residential Mentor will conduct educational, recreational, and social programming for students, oversee assigned floors and residents, and assist in the Residential Life office.
A Bachelor’s degree is required; experience in a residential environment is preferred. The salary is $28,000 and includes a private room, utilities, and meals are provided while school is in session. Residential Experience Coordinators are charged with the oversight and safety of approximately 35 adolescent students in tenth through twelfth grades. Coordinators work in collaboration with a team of Residential Mentors for campus programming, Student Center operations, and student activities. Coordinators will also serve in leadership roles for the development and implementation of a new Student Develop Curriculum that focuses on life skills, leadership, and engagement training.
A Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, college student personnel, counseling, social work, or a related field is required. Successful candidates should have at least two years of residence life or student affairs experience along with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of residential functions, operations, and strong interpersonal communication skills. Experience developing focused experiences for students and demonstrated commitment in continual learning and institutional improvement are preferred.
