Parents Association holds Welcome Wak 2013

Don’t worry — there were no ghosts or bad guys on the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts campus on Jan. 6. Scooby Doo was just here to welcome students back for the second semester during the ASMSA Parents Association Welcome Wak 2013.

Morgan Nall, a member of the Class of 2014, dressed as Scooby Doo. Standing on the corner of Whittington Avenue and Cedar Street, she, along with her sister Britany, mother Amanda and Lisa Hill, another parent, waved to students as they arrived at the school for the beginning of the Spring 2013 semester.

During Welcome Wak 2013, the Parents Association provided cookies, other treats and drinks for the students. The Parents Association also teamed with the Student Government Association to provide each student with a class T-shirt.

The Class of 2013 T-shirt featured the phrase “Work Hard Play Harder.” The Class of 2014 T-shirt said “Stay C14ssy.” The Parents Association provided the funding for the T-shirts.

It was the second Welcome Wak event held by the Parents Association. The first one was held January 2012. This year’s event was held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Student Life Center as many students began to arrive back on campus.

The name of the event is spelled to reflect how Scooby Doo speaks in the animated television show.
